Philip Rubarth, President of Rubarth Builders, has built a career defined by integrity and a relentless commitment to best practices and the highest quality standards. With over four decades of experience, he laid the foundation for the company’s reputation for precision, innovation, and meticulous attention to detail.
Phil and his brother Mark founded Rubarth Developments in 1985, leading the design and construction of custom homes, co-operative housing, and commercial projects across Nova Scotia. Phil has also managed teams to erect post-and-beam structures internationally, demonstrating his dedication to technical excellence.
His expertise spans every facet of construction, from concrete foundations and formwork to framing, structural engineering, and the integration of innovative techniques and cutting-edge materials. Under his leadership, Rubarth Builders pioneered projects such as Atlantic Canada’s first ICF home, early synthetic stucco installations, and specialized co-op housing developments, setting new benchmarks for quality and forward-thinking construction.
A core part of Phil’s philosophy is his commitment to his team. He ensures staff are well-treated, fairly compensated, and provided with benefits and professional development opportunities. Team members have been given stakeholder shares, reflecting his belief in shared ownership, collaboration, and long-term investment in the people who help make the company successful.
Throughout his career, he has balanced hands-on expertise with mentorship, collaboration, and client-focused service, ensuring every project reflects the integrity, innovation, and exceptional standards that have defined the Rubarth name for over four decades.
Phil’s son, partner, and director of field operations, Bryan Rubarth, brings a modern, multidisciplinary perspective to every project, shaped by his fine arts background from NSCAD University.
His career began with hands-on roles in carpentry, concrete forming, and then onto site supervision on large scale western Canadian infrastructure projects, including the Golden Kicking Horse Canyon Bridge, Edmonton Anthony Henday Drive, Golden Donald Bridge, ILM Transmission Line Project, Winnipeg PTH Hwy 59/101 Project, and the Site C Dam.
Today, Bryan blends technical expertise with design sensitivity, leading projects that demonstrate architectural cohesion, high-end craftsmanship, and meticulous attention to detail. Trained in custom home building, project management, and specialized architectural metal additions and metal roofing, he seamlessly unites aesthetic vision with structural precision.
Bryan’s leadership emphasizes collaboration, clear communication, and a stress-free client experience, ensuring that every project is not only expertly constructed but also thoughtfully designed.
Baillie Rubarth, wife to Bryan, office manager and client coordinator, ensures every project runs smoothly from start to finish. She manages billing, customer service, project coordination, and quality assurance, creating a seamless, personalized building experience for clients.
Baillie also brings expertise in quality control: she established and certified a construction materials testing lab, trained and scheduled inspectors for a large-scale project, and has performed inspections across a variety of job sites.
Known as the organizational backbone of Rubarth Builders, she combines meticulous attention to detail with a commitment to exceptional client care, all while also caring for their two young children. Her ability to balance family life with running the administrative and quality control heart of the company reflects her dedication, efficiency, and pride in every aspect of her work.
